Whitney Houston “look-alike” mannequin now available

Posted March 15, 2012 in Mannequin History, Trends, Trivia

You can show your love for Whitney with this mannequin we named in her honor. All she needs is a killer wig and an evening gown. Or some of her clothing that are for sale at the  upcoming auction. This mannequin is available on our website for $175.  Doesn’t she look like the Queen of the Night in this look?

Okay, she might not look EXACTLY like Whitney – but decent looking African American mannequins are extremely difficult to find, and she was closest we can get. Plus, mannequins are about fantasy anyway, aren’t’ they?

We went into overdrive trying to find a manufacturer who could provide us a Whitney look-alike after producers from CNN and Inside Edition rented mannequins from us to use on their shows about the Whitney Houston auction.Inside Edition rented three mannequin that looked like this:

And the producer of the CNN “Early Start” show chose three mannequins like this:

While viewers are just looking at the clothes, not the mannequins it probably isn’t a big deal that they chose the popular egghead style mannequins. But we would have loved to have seen the garments on a mannequin that looked like Whitney – or at least African American mannequin. After all Whitney was a real life African American Barbie doll, wasn’t she?

Speaking of Barbie, this stunning African American doll was incorrectly attributed to being a Mattel Barbie doll which is incorrect. A reader of my blog sent me over the correct info which is below.

The doll is a Fashion Royalty doll. Which does fantastic ethnic dolls. Think of Barbie. but put more fashion and articulation on her. The doll is also a repaint by a very talented repainted  in the doll community. Call Park, the artist repaints them to look more life like. The Fashion Royalty line was created by Jason Wu and the Company called Integrity toys.

Since I sell mannequins for a living, I am technically “playing with dolls” as my livelihood. So people forward me all kinds of things related to mannequins and dolls. Just found out there is an entire website devoted to African American Barbie dolls called ChocolateDoll.com.

Not a SINGLE one of these mannequins look like Whitney Houston your claim is an opportunistic FRAUD! They are not new. They have all been around for a very long time. BEFORE her death.

We named them for Whitney – posthumously. If you can find a better mannequin that looks like Whitney, let us know and we will gladly carry it. As we said in the post, African American mannequins are very hard to find
