Flower Crown Class

Flower Crown Ideas for Mothers of the Bride, Vow Renewals and Second Weddings

When people search for wedding flower crown inspiration, the images are almost always of young brides and bridesmaids.

What you rarely see are mothers of the bride, grandmothers, women celebrating second marriages, or women renewing their vows wearing flowers in their hair.

Why is that? Flowers don’t stop being beautiful at a certain age. Neither do the women who wear them in their hair.

At Mannequin Madness, we’ve hosted weekly flower crown workshops and private flower crown parties for people celebrating all kinds of life milestones. During our workshops, participants create their own floral crowns and headpieces using realistic faux flowers, pearls, greenery, feathers, ribbons, and other embellishments.

The flower crowns and floral headpieces featured throughout this article were designed and created by the women wearing them. Most of the photos were taken immediately after participants completed their creations in our Oakland workshop.

While these women may not be dressed for a wedding in the photos, their floral headpieces offer beautiful inspiration for weddings, second marriages, vow renewals, anniversary celebrations, and other meaningful milestones.

As you can see, they are all at different stages of life, and they all look gorgeous wearing flowers in their hair.

Flowers in your hair aren’t reserved for one age, one style, or one chapter of life. After hosting hundreds of flower crown workshops, we’ve seen women of every age, body type, and hair texture create floral headpieces that reflect their own personality and style.

We have no idea why there aren’t more images in the media that showcase women over 50 wearing flowers in their hair, but we think there should be.

One of the reasons we offer faux flowers and eco-friendly embellishments in our class is so that participants leave with more than a beautiful accessory for a single event. They leave with a keepsake that can be worn long after the celebration is over.

Sometimes those creations tell a deeply personal story.

The bride pictured below wrapped her headband in a necktie that belonged to her late father. It was her way of including his presence at the altar on her wedding day.

What began as a flower crown became something much more meaningful. A tribute. A memory. A connection. And she didn’t come to the workshop alone.

Her mother attended the class with her and created a coordinating floral headpiece to wear to the wedding. The outfit she planned to wear had special meaning as well. It had been purchased years earlier during a trip to Africa she took with her late husband.

Like her daughter, she couldn’t find exactly what she wanted online.Instead, she created it herself.

Their story is a reminder that floral headpieces aren’t simply accessories. They can celebrate love, honor family, preserve memories, and become part of the story we tell about life’s most meaningful moments.

One of the things we love most about our workshops is seeing how differently people interpret the same materials.

Some participants create traditional flower crowns. Others incorporate pearls, feathers, lace, crystals, greenery, or vintage-inspired embellishments. The finished pieces often feel more like wearable art than traditional flower crowns. No two are alike because no two people are alike.

The beauty of creating your own floral headpiece is that you aren’t limited to what happens to be available in a store. You can create something that reflects your personality, your style, and the significance of the occasion.

Our public flower crown workshops are held every Sunday in Oakland and typically last about two hours. For those looking for a more personalized experience, we also offer private parties where family and friends can create together. Bring your mother, daughter, grandmother, sisters, future in-laws, or bridal party and make an afternoon of it. You can bring their own refreshments and enjoy the experience in our unique mannequin warehouse.
