I have written a series of blog posts about vintage Rootstein Mannequins, my favorite brand. The information was provided to me by a Rootstein collector who has over 100 Rootstein mannequins in his home. My goal in writing the posts was to create an archive where new and experienced collectors could easily find detailed data on their favorite Rootstein Mannequin.

This is the elusive “Cher” mannequin – one that many have desired to own, but only a few have seen.

This is a custom body pose code AR2 from Girl Thing Series, head from pose code torso CAVL, note the “Cher” produced by Rootstein was available on Vicki Lewis Series bodies those have a letter “C” in front of the code for Vicki Lewis “AVL” and then the number for the pose would be last.

Sidebar, D G Williams mannequins released “The Beautiful People” Series, circa 1977, featuring Billie Blair (yes, they sculpted her too) , Diane Von Furstenberg, Cher and several others…….

The custom “Cher” in these photos is styled to like her album cover for Dark Lady ( released 1974 on MCA Records), the photo was taken by Richard Avedon for The Conde Nast Publications. Additional photos from the same shoot are featured in Vogue , June 1974 issue. The album cover features a Calvin Klein dress, but in Vogue it is shown as a swimsuit and wrap/coverup…… the mannequin is in Calvin Klein dress, and vintage shoes.
