Did you know that Rootstein made a mannequin that looked like PRINCE?
While they didn’t actually commission PRINCE mannequin (like they did with Cher or Beyoncé) The retailer where we rescued him from altered him with the make up and wig.
I must say he has a very strong resemblance to PRINCE.
The actual person whose likeness this is based on is a model named Ross.
In this series I have posted about the 100 Rootstein mannequins owned by a private collector who is a customer of mine. He has a very particular aesthetic with the types of mannequins he likes to collect – only one youth mannequin and less than 15% of his collection are male mannequins.
So he passed on purchasing PRINCE. But I thought it was such a unique mannequin that it was worth a special mention in this series.
We sold the mannequin on Ebay to a buyer who also has a Michael Jackson look alike mannequin. There is a whole subculture of mannequin collectors who like celebrity look a like mannequins. There is one man who collects Cher mannequins and has many of her original costumes that he displays on the mannequins
