“The Legend and Legacy of Adel Rootstein Mannequins”  is an Ebook that Mannequin Madness has co-authored to be a resource for “all things Rootstein”.

It covers a range of facts, juicy tidbits and insider information about the company prior to its purchase by other vendors. Plus it has over 200 photos of vintage Rootstein mannequins, a list of the Rootstein codes to help you identify the name of the model and collection your mannequin is from and much more.

The ebook is our personal passion project for me and the other authors and it is free to download here.

The book began as a series of blog posts I wrote back in 2020 with the help from a loyal customer of Mannequin Madness who was head of visual merchandising for several large department store chains on the east coast. He is extremely knowledgeable about all things fashion related and has a passion for Rootstein mannequins. He has over 100 of them in his private collection.

During the Covid shutdown, we were bored and started reminiscing about the “good old days” when stores had realistic mannequins instead of headless or eggheads. Although we both shop online we miss seeing window displays that resemble street theater, all year round, not just at Christmas.

We decided to record our memories about Rootstein mannequins and the retail industry in general in a series of blog posts, primarily just for our own “back down memory lane” entertainment purposes.

But the posts were so well received by the public (Rootstein fans are rabid) we decided to compile all the posts into a book form so all the information could be in one place and properly organized. And we included other details we didn’t have in the blog posts.

While writing the book, we were reminded about the significant impact Rootstein mannequins had on the fashion industry. We came to the conclusion that if Adel, the founder of the company, had been a fashion designer, there would have been multiple retrospectives of her work at museums all over the US and in the UK where the company was headquartered.

But since mannequins are behind the scenes  (and behind the seams) we feel she didn’t get the type of recognition she deserves.

Our ebook would be a historical archive that would be our personal tribute to her so future generations would realize her impact.

We hope you enjoy the book! It was truly a labor of love.
