Dressing a mannequin for a museum exhibition which often involves vintage clothing and delicate fabrics is very different than dressing a mannequin for a retail store. In the video below two curators involved with the Oscar De La Renta retrospective explain how it is done.

The DeYoung museum has held retrospective exhibits for fashion designers such as Oscar De La Renta, Jon Paul Gaultier, Balenciaga, Yve Saint Laurent and others. With the exception of the Jon Paul Gaultier exhibit, which had its own interactive “talking” mannequins, the same series of mannequins were used to display the wide array of clothing.

The mannequins at the DeYoung are Schlappi made by Italian design house Bonaveri. They cost over $1,000 each but we have a knock off version of those mannequins for $225  here.
